Massive Fire Breaks Out in Canning Town Construction Site
A massive fire engulfed a construction site in Canning Town, London, near Silvertown Way, prompting a swift response from the London Fire Brigade. The blaze, which originated in a commercial unit on the ground floor of a 10-story building, emitted dense black smoke that billowed into the sky, causing alarm among residents.
Several individuals were rushed to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, with London Ambulance Service deploying ambulances and specialized teams to deal with the emergency. A hazardous area response team (HART) was among the expert crews on site to assist the affected individuals.
Among the notable areas impacted by the fire were the A1011 Silvertown Way, now closed between the A13 Canning Town Flyover and Hallsville Road, bringing traffic in the vicinity to a standstill. Nearby Hallsville Quarter, a construction site opposite Canning Town station, was the site of the devastating blaze.
Approximately 70 firefighters, comprising 10 fire engines from stations like Plaistow, Poplar, and East Ham, were swiftly mobilized to the scene, where they worked tirelessly to contain the inferno. The London Fire Brigade received over 30 distress calls reporting the fire’s outbreak, with the first call coming in at 08:23 AM.
Emergency responders managed to rescue one individual using a 13.5-meter ladder, illustrating the perilous nature of the situation. While seven people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, three others received on-site medical treatment as a precautionary measure.
Fire investigators have commenced efforts to determine the cause of the fire, assuring the community that all individuals known to have been at the site have been safely evacuated or accounted for. The priority now is to assess the extent of the damage and ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
