Massive Power Outage Leaves Over 8,000 in Burien Without Service

Burien, Washington — A power outage on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, has impacted more than 8,295 customers in Burien, according to Seattle City Light. The outage commenced at 12:36 p.m., with the cause still under investigation.
As of 3 p.m., Seattle City Light updated the estimated restoration time for the two largest outages from 4:04 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following Wednesday, April 9. The affected area spans broadly from Gregory Heights in the south to Boulevard Park in the north, leaving many residents and businesses without electricity.
Seattle City Light has urged customers to check its Twitter account for real-time updates on the situation. “Crews are currently working to resolve the outages affecting approximately 8,300 customers in Burien and Boulevard Park,” the utility announced. “The cause is still under investigation and an estimated restoration time is yet to be determined.”
In the wake of the power outage, the Burien Community Center has temporarily closed until power is restored. “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this time,” a message from the City of Burien stated on social media.
Residents have shared their frustration regarding the frequency of power outages in the area. One resident remarked, “Ugh, another power outage? I think I’ve had to clean out my fridge two to three times in the last two years due to long power outages. It makes me sad, especially as food prices continue to increase.”
City officials emphasize the importance of reporting outages and monitoring the situation via the utility’s online platforms. “We appreciate the hard work of all the crews out there restoring power,” the announcement concluded.
