Matt Gaetz Alan Ritchson Interview Controversy

ORLANDO, Fla. — Former Congressman Matt Gaetz defended himself against comments made by actor Alan Ritchson in a recent interview, suggesting that Ritchson was seeking Hollywood fame by labeling him a “motherf–ker.” The remarks were made during a promotional appearance for Ritchson’s upcoming film.

Gaetz, who resigned from Congress in November 2024 amid sexual misconduct allegations, addressed the matter during a press conference on February 21, 2025. He stated that he and Ritchson were once friends while attending the same school. “Hollywood apparently changes people,” said Gaetz, appearing unfazed by Ritchson’s derogatory comments.

In his remarks, Gaetz recalled their history together, asserting, “We were not ‘adversaries’ as I won debate championships and Alan did more acting stuff. He was always very nice to me (and everyone), and his mother, the computer lab monitor, loved me.” The former congressman emphasized that he did not take Ritchson’s comments personally and aimed to highlight their past friendship.

Ritchson, known for his roles in the “Reacher” series and the recent film “Fast X,” had not formally responded to Gaetz’s rebuttal as of press time. However, sources close to the actor confirmed that his initial comments were intended to highlight the changes that fame can bring to relationships.

This exchange follows Gaetz’s resignation from Congress, which occurred amidst a series of controversies, including allegations that led him to step down as a candidate for Attorney General, a position previously endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

The public reaction has been mixed, with some supporters of Gaetz claiming that he was misrepresented, while others agree with Ritchson’s views on how celebrity can affect one’s character and relationships.
