Mavericks Encounter Knicks in Tense NBA Matchup Tonight

NEW YORK, March 24, 2025 – The Dallas Mavericks (35-37) will seek to extend their newfound winning streak when they face the New York Knicks (44-26) tonight at Madison Square Garden at 6:30 p.m. CST. This matchup marks the culmination of the Mavericks’ four-game East Coast road trip.
Dallas secured its first winning streak in over a month by defeating the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. The team is hopeful for continued momentum despite the absence of center Anthony Davis, who will sit this game on a minute restriction following his return to the lineup.
The Knicks, fresh off a 122-103 victory against the Washington Wizards, currently sit third in the Eastern Conference, holding a three-game lead over Indiana with only ten games remaining in the regular season. However, New York’s recent performance has been inconsistent, posting a 4-4 record since Jalen Brunson’s ankle injury on March 6.
“Every game is crucial for our playoff positioning,” Knicks’ coach Tom Thibodeau stated. “We need to focus on playing our best basketball, especially as we near the postseason.”
With Brunson sidelined, the Knicks have relied on several players to step up in the offensive department. Guard Miles McBride, who started the first seven games of the month, shot 40% from deep during that span. Fellow guard Mikal Bridges has seen his numbers spike to an average of 21.8 points since Brunson’s injury, showcasing his capability as a primary scorer.
“Mik has really stepped up,” Thibodeau added. “His ability to score and create plays has been vital while we navigate this tough stretch.”
On the opposing side, Mavericks’ point guards Spencer Dinwiddie and Brandon Williams have also found their scoring rhythm. Dinwiddie recorded impressive shooting splits of 72.7% over the last two games, while Williams has maintained a scoring average of 16.9 points per game over his last eight outings.
The Mavericks’ strategy will be significantly impacted by the absence of Davis. Coach Jason Kidd expressed optimism in young players stepping into larger roles, mentioning Kai Jones as an emerging contributor who has surprised with his ability to lead fast breaks.
Conversely, the Knicks’ defensive versatility, particularly with Bridges, Josh Hart, and OG Anunoby, could challenge the Mavericks’ offense. With Hart leading the league in minutes played, his contributions on both ends have been invaluable.
“We have to be careful with our ball security,” Dinwiddie acknowledged. “The Knicks can force turnovers, and we need to stay composed under pressure.”
The game will be broadcasted on KFAA Channel 29 and MAVS TV, with radio coverage available on 97.1 FM KEGL (English) and 99.1 FM KFZO (Español).
