Mavericks’ Martin on Verge of Return Ahead of Grizzlies Matchup

Dallas, Texas — Dallas Mavericks forward Kenyon Martin Jr. is nearing a return to the court as he has been upgraded to questionable for the team’s upcoming game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, March 7, 2025. Martin, who has not played since January 10, during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers, was acquired by the Mavericks during the recent trade deadline.
Martin, a 29-year-old forward, joined the Mavericks as a part of a deal that saw younger player Quentin Grimes head to the Sixers. The deal was particularly noteworthy, considering Grimes is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, while Martin is under a four-year contract worth $35 million.
Having missed much of the season due to a hip strain, Martin’s potential return is crucial for the Mavericks, who currently have only eight fully available players due to injuries. In his time with Philadelphia this season, Martin averaged 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, shooting 43.5% from the field and 37.9% from beyond the arc.
The Mavericks are also in need of depth as they prepare to face the Grizzlies, who are competing for a playoff spot. According to Mike Curtis from The Dallas Morning News, Martin’s presence could provide a significant boost to the team’s performance.
“We are looking forward to having him back,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd commented on Martin’s return during a team practice. “His experience and versatility can really help us, especially given our current situation with injuries.”
As the Mavericks aim to solidify their playoff positioning, the team is hoping that Martin’s anticipated return will enhance their competitiveness in the remainder of the season.
