Mavericks Sign Center Moses Brown to 10-Day Contract Amid Injury Crisis

DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Mavericks have officially signed center Moses Brown to a 10-day contract, seeking immediate relief from significant injuries plaguing their frontcourt. The move comes as the NBA All-Star break concludes and the Mavericks prepare for the remainder of the season.
The Mavericks currently find themselves in need of size as several key players, including Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, and Dwight Powell, are expected to miss multiple weeks due to injuries. With these critical absences, securing a capable big man has become a top priority for the team.
Brown, a 7-foot-2 center, has had an uneven NBA journey since going undrafted out of UCLA in 2019. Most recently, he played for the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G League, where he averaged 15.6 points and 14.9 rebounds per game this season. His performance in the G League has garnered attention, leading to this latest opportunity with the Mavericks.
Previously, Brown played for the Mavericks during the 2021-22 season, where he appeared in 26 games, averaging 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in limited minutes. His experience with the Mavericks under head coach Jason Kidd may help him reintegrate quickly into the team’s system.
“Having Moses back gives us depth in the frontcourt, which we desperately need right now,” said Kidd. “He brings size and athleticism, and we’re hopeful he can contribute as we navigate through these injuries.”
The transaction marks a calculated risk for the Mavericks. Under strict hard-cap rules, signing Brown limits their financial flexibility in the future. They currently have $171,120 available under the hard cap, and Brown’s contract will reduce that to just $51,148 once it expires. Therefore, the decision underscores the urgency of the Mavericks’ injury woes.
Brown’s previous stint didn’t reach lofty expectations, but he has shown flashes of his potential, notably during his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he tallied a career-high 24 points and 18 rebounds in a 2021 game. Such performances have given Mavericks fans hope for his impact in this second chance.
“It’s all about staying ready,” said Brown in a pre-signing interview. “I know the magnitude of the situation, and I’m eager to contribute however I can.”
Dallas enters the latter part of the season with a record of 30-26 and aims to secure a playoff position amid struggles with injuries. As key players like Powell and P.J. Washington work their way back, the Mavericks hope that Brown can help fill the gaps during a crucial stretch.
His signing is expected to provide much-needed support in the paint while the Mavericks continue to manage their roster in light of ongoing injuries. The team will watch the situation closely as they gear up for the final push towards the playoffs.
