Memphis Pastor Funeral Arrangements

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Funeral arrangements for Ricky D. Floyd Sr., a prominent pastor and advocate for social justice, have been announced following his tragic shooting death on March 12. The Pursuit of God Church confirmed that visitation will take place on March 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at R.S. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home, located at 3651 Austin Peay Highway. The homegoing celebration service is scheduled for March 28 at Greater Imani Church, 3824 Austin Peay Highway, with viewing from 10 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. and the service commencing at 11 a.m.

Pastor Floyd was shot outside Momma’s Bar and Grill in South Memphis after an altercation with other patrons. According to a police affidavit, an argument escalated outside the bar, leading to Floyd throwing a cellphone and a beer can before he was shot by Samantha Marion, 42. Witnesses reported Marion allegedly fired the fatal shot during a dispute. Marion has since been charged with voluntary manslaughter and has pleaded not guilty.

Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy explained the legal implications of the charge, stating, “Voluntary manslaughter is a type of homicide committed in the heat of passion where there’s adequate provocation. It’s typically charged in situations where an altercation between the defendant and the victim turns deadly.” If convicted, Marion could face up to 30 years in prison.

In the wake of Floyd’s death, local community leaders have called for an end to gun violence. Shelby County Commissioner Charlie Caswell Jr. spoke of the support he received during this challenging time, saying, “You all were among the first to reach out, asking, ‘What can we do?’ I urged everyone to ensure Pastor Ricky’s legacy continues afloat.”

Pastor Floyd was well-respected in the community for his dedication to youth programs and social justice initiatives. His untimely death has left many residents grieving the loss of a beloved mentor, with community members vowing to honor his legacy through continued activism.

As the local community rallies around the Floyd family, ongoing efforts aim to address the escalating issue of gun violence, reflecting the urgent need for change in Memphis. Floyd’s life and work as a community advocate continue to inspire both supporters and new leaders looking to carry forward his mission.
