Mercedes Mone Shines in CMLL Title Defense at Arena Mexico

Mexico City, Mexico – Mercedes Mone wowed fans Friday night at Arena Mexico, defending her CMLL Women’s Title against Persephone. The night was a tribute to legendary singer Selena Quintanilla, as her music filled the venue and Mone donned a sparkly purple outfit similar to Quintanilla’s iconic jumpsuit.
Mone, who previously competed in WWE, has made a name for herself in the wrestling world, holding 10 championships in just over a year since her departure from the company. Recently, she captured the BODYSLAM Women’s Championship on October 10.
After retaining her CMLL title, Mone announced a challenge for the TBS Championship at AEW WrestleDream this weekend. Her mysterious opponent will also be putting their title on the line, giving Mone the chance to add an 11th championship to her collection.
This week marked a significant milestone for Mone as she became the longest reigning TBS Champion, surpassing Jade Cargill‘s previous record of 508 days. Cargill, who is now signed with WWE, held the title from January 5, 2021, to May 28, 2023. Mone won the TBS title at Double or Nothing 2024.
As Mone continues her reign, she is on track to break Cargill’s defense record of 25, currently having defended her title 22 times. In a recent interview, Mone reflected on her journey, saying, “She wanted it all, but she never got to hold it all. Mercedes Mone, the CEO, is everything ‘The Legit Boss’ wanted to be.”
