Met Gala 2025 to Celebrate Black Style with Star-Studded Event

NEW YORK CITY – The 2025 Met Gala is set for May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, shining a spotlight on Black men’s fashion with its theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This annual star-studded event will showcase the intersection of style, politics, and history as it celebrates Black dandyism.

Guests begin arriving at 5:30 p.m. ET, with livestream coverage available through Vogue and E! Digital platforms. This year’s hosts include singer and actor Teyana Taylor, actor La La Anthony, and comedian Ego Nwodim, marking an exciting night for celebrities and fashion enthusiasts alike.

Curated by Monica L. Miller, who is known for her book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” the exhibition aims to explore how fashion plays a crucial role in shaping Black identities. “Black style is really related to thinking about how fashion and power connect,” Miller expressed, emphasizing the impact of clothing on one’s agency and historical context.

The exhibition will be organized into 12 sections focusing on key themes such as ownership, respectability, and freedom. It highlights the importance of tailors in Black communities, who have often crafted bespoke clothing for special occasions.

This year’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” is expected to showcase a range of menswear styles, from traditional suiting to bold looks inspired by Congolese sapeurs. Key co-chairs for the gala include celebrities like Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and Colman Domingo.

Tickets for the event are priced at $75,000, but the guest list remains tightly controlled, managed by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Some notable figures are expected to attend, including André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Spike Lee, among others.

Despite the exclusivity, the event’s significance lies in its reflections on fashion’s cultural and historical relevance, making it a highly anticipated occasion every year.
