Middlesbrough Cruise to Victory Against Sheffield Wednesday
Middlesbrough secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday as they strive to secure a play-off spot in the Championship. An own goal by Michael Ihiekwe and a deflected shot from Isaiah Jones sealed the win for Boro, maintaining their six-game unbeaten run.
Under manager Michael Carrick, Middlesbrough have stayed in contention for a top-six finish, while Wednesday, led by Danny Rohl, have dropped form with just one point from their last four games following a promising period.
Despite a promising start from Wednesday with Marvin Johnson and Anthony Musaba posing threats, Middlesbrough gained control as the game progressed with Jones, Greenwood, and Latte Lath making significant impacts.
The first-half saw a deflection off Ihiekwe from Greenwood’s corner giving Boro the lead, while Jones’ second-half cross found the net via a deflection off Bannan to double their advantage.
Wednesday goalkeeper Beadle thwarted several Boro attempts, but Seny Dieng was finally tested in the 76th minute. A late penalty miss by Greenwood did not affect the result.
Speaking after the match, Carrick emphasized controlling the game’s tempo and expressed optimism about Boro’s playoff chances. In contrast, Rohl lamented Wednesday’s lackluster performance, pointing out fundamental errors and the team’s overall attitude.
