Miss Universe Contestants Walk Out Over Controversial Remarks in Thailand
Bangkok, Thailand – Contestants of the Miss Universe pageant raised concerns over respect and treatment during a sashing ceremony on November 4, 2025, leading to a high-profile walkout. The incident began when Nawat Itsaragrisil, president of Miss Grand International, confronted Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, regarding her absence from a sponsorship event.
The confrontation, which was streamed live on social media, escalated quickly. Itsaragrisil reportedly asked Bosch to stand and questioned why she was not part of a specific filming opportunity. Footage from the event showed Bosch visibly uncomfortable before she left the venue, prompting several other contestants to follow in a show of solidarity.
“Stop. Stop! Sit down,” Itsaragrisil can be heard saying as some contestants attempted to exit the room. He later addressed the ladies on the Facebook page of Miss Universe Thailand, inviting them back except for Bosch, whom he accused of “talking too much.”
After her departure, Bosch took to social media to express her disappointment. “What your director just did is not respectful. He called me dumb,” she stated in a video that has gained over 375,000 views. “I think the world needs to see this because we are empowered women, and this is a platform for our voice.”
Support for Bosch came not only from her fellow contestants but also from Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Kjær Theilvig, who defended her stance on social media. Theilvig wrote, “Standing up for yourself is not always easy, but it’s one of the most important acts of self-respect.”
In another clip posted, Miss Universe Bonaire 2025, Nicole Peiliker-Visser, pleaded for a resolution, stating, “Can we talk? We can fix this.” The situation sparked discussions around women’s rights and respect within the pageant community.
As of now, neither Itsaragrisil nor the Miss Universe Organization has released an official response to the incident. The Miss Universe pageant is set to take place on November 21, and preparations continue amidst the rising tensions.
