Missing Markham Woman Identified as Body Found in Parry Sound
Human remains discovered in Parry Sound, Ontario, have been identified as those of missing Markham woman Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui, according to local police.
The identified remains were found on August 12, leading to multiple charges against three teenagers. One of the teenagers, a 17-year-old from Whitby, is facing firearms charges, including unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon.
Mui, 56, was reported missing by her family on August 9. Following her disappearance, her vehicle, a white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 SUV, was located in the vicinity of Finch Avenue E. and Warden Avenue in Toronto.
On the day the remains were found, police reported that burned human remains were located near Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400 in McDougall Township, approximately 230 kilometers north of Toronto. The Office of the Chief Coroner confirmed that the deceased was Mui on Wednesday.
The accused teenagers include another 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, both residing in Toronto. They face fraud charges under $5,000, as police allege they used Mui’s credit cards at various locations across the Greater Toronto Area following her disappearance.
Police describe all three young offenders as persons of interest in the ongoing homicide investigation, though their specific involvement is still under scrutiny. As of now, two of the teenagers are out on bail, while the third remains in custody, with a bail hearing anticipated within the upcoming week.
Authorities are also on the lookout for a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van, as they believe it may have been used to transport Mui. Investigators are requesting anyone who might have seen the van or possesses surveillance footage from Parry Sound or the area of 3821 Vandorf Sideroad in Whitchurch-Stouffville between August 9 and August 12 to come forward.
Police have stated that they believe this incident was targeted.
