Missouri Tigers Host Mississippi State Bulldogs on Senior Night
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Missouri Tigers will host the Mississippi State Bulldogs for Senior Night this Saturday at Faurot Field. Both teams are looking to rebound, with the Tigers seeking to end a two-game losing streak and the Bulldogs hoping to secure bowl eligibility.
The Tigers are coming off a tough 38-17 loss to Texas A&M, where freshman quarterback Matt Zollers struggled, throwing for only 77 yards. However, Mizzou’s run game found some success, led by Jamal Roberts and Ahmad Hardy, who both topped 100 rushing yards. Hardy’s performance also marked over 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Despite the offensive challenges, the Tigers’ defense showed promise, especially from senior linebacker Triston Newson, who tallied 11 tackles. Mizzou’s season record stands at 6-3, with a 2-3 mark in the SEC.
On the other hand, Mississippi State has a season record of 5-5 and is looking to improve upon its SEC standing. The Bulldogs are coming off a 41-21 defeat against Georgia and hope to bounce back against a Mizzou team eager for a win. Quarterback Blake Shapen, who has thrown for over 2,200 yards this season, has been cleared from injury and is likely to start.
Missouri’s head coach Eli Drinkwitz remains optimistic about his team’s chances, highlighting the importance of supporting Zollers, who is making only his second start. Drinkwitz expressed the need to establish the run game early to ease the pressure on the freshman quarterback.
The matchup marks the sixth all-time meeting between these two teams, with Mizzou having won the last encounter in 2024. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on the SEC Network. Emotions will be high as 20 seniors take the field for the final time at home.
