Moises Henriques Tests Positive For Covid 19 Ahead Of Big Bash League Final

Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques has been ruled positive for COVID-19, putting his availability for the Big Bash League final in doubt. However, the franchise has confirmed that Henriques will take the field, as long as precautionary measures are taken. This makes Henriques the fourth Australian cricketer to contract the virus in quick succession, following Travis Head, Cameron Green, and coach Andrew McDonald.

The Sydney Sixers achieved a home final after defeating the Perth Scorchers in the playoffs, securing a top-two spot in the league stage. Henriques played a vital role in the team’s journey to the finals, contributing with a crucial unbeaten 59 in the Qualifier clash against Brisbane Heat.

Despite testing positive for COVID-19, Henriques can play in the final while adhering to social distancing guidelines on the field and in the dressing room. This is not the first instance of a player performing despite being COVID-positive. Tahlia McGrath played in the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medal match against India while battling the virus, and Matt Renshaw also played a Test match against South Africa despite contracting the virus during the game.

Securing a place in their second successive final, the Brisbane Heat defeated the Adelaide Strikers in the Challenger contest thanks to a sensational century from Josh Brown. The Heat, aiming to claim their first title since the 2012-23 campaign, will face off against the Sydney Sixers in the final of the 2023-24 Big Bash League.
