C.j. Mosley Nfl Retirement Announcement

New York, NY — C.J. Mosley, a five-time Pro Bowl linebacker, announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday, coinciding with his 33rd birthday. The news was confirmed by CBS Sports and shared on social media by the player himself.

Mosley spent the last six seasons with the New York Jets after being selected 17th overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2014 NFL Draft. During his time in the league, he became an emotional leader and signal-caller for the Jets’ defense.

After signing a five-year, $85 million contract with the Jets in 2019, Mosley struggled with injuries that limited his effectiveness on the field. Last season, he played only four games due to a herniated disc in his neck and toe issues. He recorded just 17 tackles during that time, a stark contrast to his previous performances.

Throughout his 11-year career, Mosley amassed nearly 1,100 tackles, 12 sacks, and 12 interceptions. His best season was in 2022 when he made his fifth Pro Bowl and was named a second-team All-Pro.

Prior to his NFL career, Mosley was a star at the University of Alabama, winning the Butkus Award and being named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. His college accolades included back-to-back national championships under coach Nick Saban.

Mosley’s retirement marks the end of a distinguished career characterized by both individual achievements and contributions to his teams’ defenses. He now enters a new chapter following a celebrated football career.
