Moyuka Uchijima Tennis Match

Madrid, Spain – At just 23 years old, Moyuka Uchijima has made waves at the Mutua Madrid Open, achieving an impressive upset against No. 22 Ekaterina Alexandrova on Tuesday. The match ended with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (5), marking Uchijima’s first entry into a WTA 1000 quarterfinal.

Ranked No. 56 and beginning the tournament with a 13-12 record this season, Uchijima previously had not defeated a Top 25 opponent until now. Her victory over Alexandrova followed a stunning win against World No. 3 Jessica Pegula, shining a spotlight on her rising talent.

Uchijima broke Alexandrova five times throughout their match. The young player has now won six consecutive sets, building on her recent success in Rouen, France, where she also reached the quarterfinals last week. Before these accomplishments, Uchijima had only reached one WTA-level quarterfinal in her career.

Uchijima’s impressive performance illustrates not only her potential but also her determination. “I’m ecstatic to win against such tough opponents back-to-back. It gives me a lot of confidence moving forward,” she said after her match.

As the tournament progresses, Uchijima aims to build on this momentum and continue her surprising journey at the Madrid Open.
