National Taco Day Shifts to Enhance Taco Tuesday Celebrations
National Taco Day, traditionally celebrated on October 4th, now takes place on the first Tuesday of October to align with the famed Taco Tuesday. This change was announced earlier this month, coinciding with Taco Bell‘s efforts and the National Day Calendar‘s decision to bring more excitement to the culinary celebration.
The revised date allows for a more significant celebration of the tortillas and fillings beloved by many across the United States. Marlo Anderson, founder of the National Day Calendar, noted, “For years, we’ve celebrated National Taco Day on October 4th, but it’s always felt like there was a bigger opportunity to align it with something even more special – Taco Tuesday.”
Taco Bell has taken full advantage of this calendar adjustment by rolling out a series of promotions. The company is offering $1 tacos every hour from 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT until 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on October 1, 2024. Rewards members can access these deals through the company’s app, capitalizing on the hourly drops of taco offers.
In addition to this daylong event, Taco Bell has also planned to maintain the festive mood throughout October. Each Tuesday features different promotions, including a chance to win trips to Taco Bell’s headquarters in Irvine, California, and year-long free tacos for selected rewards members.
Furthermore, Taco John’s, which claims to have coined the term “Taco Tuesday,” joins the festivities, providing members with a free Beef Stuffed Grilled Taco with any purchase. They also plan to offer exclusive deals every Wednesday throughout October for their rewards members.
Other chains are contributing to the celebration with various offers. For instance, Bubbakoo’s Burritos provides a $5 digital meal deal, which includes tacos and a side. Meanwhile, Chuy’s allows customers to augment any entrée with an additional ground beef taco for just $1, along with other beverage specials.
Qdoba rewards members can earn double points from October 1-3, and On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina is promoting endless tacos at a fixed price throughout the first two weeks of October.
The move to orchestrate National Taco Day on a consistent Tuesday each year aims to maximize the festive and commercial potential of this widely celebrated food item.
