Protests Against Trump April 19 2025

DENVER, Colo. — A nationwide wave of protests is planned for April 19, 2025, organized by the grassroots group 50501. This movement seeks to oppose President Trump‘s policies and executive actions since he returned to office in January.

With events in all 50 states, organizers aim to gather more than 11 million participants, representing 3.5 percent of the U.S. population. According to the group, achieving this turnout is critical for sustaining resistance against policies they argue undermine democracy and civil liberties.

50501, which stands for “50 protests, 50 states, one day,” has become a key player in the national anti-Trump movement. The group’s previous protests have drawn significant crowds, including an event on April 5, which saw an estimated 100,000 participants in a single location.

In Chicago, a main demonstration titled “The People’s Protest: Joy as Resistance” will take place at Washington Park. Co-organizer Jill Iverson highlighted that the event will feature music, speeches from community leaders, and a call for collective action: “Our movement shows the world that the American working class will not sit idly by,” she said.

The protests respond to a series of executive orders signed by Trump, which critics say roll back essential rights, environmental protections, and threaten judicial independence. Organizers have expressed concern about Trump’s challenges to judicial rulings and the legitimacy of electoral processes.

Hunter Dunn, the national press coordinator for 50501, underscored that the protests are not just about demonstrating but raising awareness about local issues. “In Southern California, this may look like a mutual aid drive to help people affected by wildfires,” he said, referencing different initiatives around the country aimed at addressing community needs.

More than 525 events are listed across the country for April 19, with some focused on celebrating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and others advocating for science and climate action. However, as of now, states such as Delaware, Louisiana, Nebraska, and North Carolina have not confirmed participation.

Rebecca Winter, another leader within the movement, shared her optimism after the success of recent events. “This is really about mobilization. We want to raise awareness and encourage people to engage actively with their communities,” she added.

The protests in all participating states are projected to begin in the morning, featuring rallies, marches, and speeches aimed at pushing back against what demonstrators label an authoritarian agenda. The 50501 movement is committed to supporting marginalized communities, fostering mutual aid, and building grassroots resistance.
