NBC NewsTODAY show has maintained its position as the leading morning program in the United States, with recent data indicating significant viewership advantages across key demographic categories. As of October 8, 2024, TODAY has claimed the top spot for 60 consecutive weeks in the critical age demographic of 25-54, outperforming ABC’s “Good Morning America” (GMA).

This weekly streak represents the longest winning period for TODAY in this age group in more than three years, according to recent figures provided by Nielsen. Last week, TODAY recorded its largest single-day viewership advantage in six years, a considerable achievement in the competitive morning show landscape.

In a broader view, TODAY is making strides in closing the gap against GMA in total viewer ratings, with an improvement of 81% in this measure this season. As of the recent report, TODAY trails GMA by only 49,000 total viewers, marking its closest margin in over a decade at 12 years.

For the 2024 season to date, covering the period from September 23 to October 6, TODAY stands out as the top-rated morning show in both the 25-54 and 18-49 demographics. This performance provides TODAY with more than twice the demographic lead over GMA compared to the same period last year, marking its best competitive start in 13 seasons.

Additionally, in the month of September, TODAY maintained its number one position, marking back-to-back monthly wins for the first time since the beginning of 2018. It was particularly dominant in the A18-49 demographic, achieving its most significant September victory against GMA since 2017.

Today’s online presence also remains robust, with TODAY Digital attracting an average of 50 million unique visitors each quarter over the last five quarters, further expanding its influence and reach beyond traditional television metrics.

The ongoing competition between TODAY and Good Morning America illustrates the tight race for dominance in U.S. morning television, a rivalry that continues to captivate millions of viewers nationwide.
