Neeraj Chopra Diamond League 2024

In a highly competitive Diamond League Final held at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Indian star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed the title by a mere one centimeter. Neeraj’s best throw of the day stood at 87.86 meters, which earned him a second-place finish at the prestigious event. The top honor went to Grenadian athlete Anderson Peters, who delivered a throw of 87.87 meters on his first attempt.

The competition was fiercely contested as Neeraj Chopra started with a throw of 86.82 meters and gradually improved to 87.86 meters in his third attempt. This impressive throw placed him in close contention for the title. However, Peters’ initial throw of 87.87 meters remained unmatched throughout the event, securing his victory.

German javelin thrower Julian Weber claimed the third spot with his best throw of 85.97 meters. The winner, Anderson Peters, not only received the coveted Diamond Trophy but also a $30,000 prize and a wildcard entry to the World Athletics Championships. Neeraj Chopra, on securing the second position, was awarded $12,000.

Neeraj Chopra had previously shown remarkable performance in the Diamond League series, finishing with a season-best throw of 89.49 meters in Lausanne. Despite his achievements, Neeraj continued to face challenges due to fitness concerns, particularly a groin injury that impacted his ability to surpass the 90-meter mark.

Following the event, Neeraj acknowledged his ongoing struggle with fitness and mentioned plans to consult a specialist for his groin injury. His performance in Brussels, however, reaffirmed his status as one of the world’s premier javelin throwers. Neeraj’s consistent performances across the Diamond League series highlight his significant contribution to Indian athletics.
