Nephew Ibrahim Zadran Gives Debut Test Cap to Uncle Noor Ali Zadran
In a heartwarming incident on the cricket field, age proved to be just a number as Ibrahim Zadran, nephew of Noor Ali Zadran, handed his uncle the debut Test cap. This unique moment took place during the ongoing Test match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
Ibrahim Zadran, who is only 22 years old, opened the batting alongside his uncle after presenting him with the cap. Unfortunately, Ibrahim’s innings was short-lived as he returned to the pavilion without scoring a run. However, in the second innings, the nephew-uncle duo built a partnership of 106 runs, with Noor Ali Zadran scoring 106 runs in 258 balls.
It is quite uncommon to see a younger player giving a debut cap to an older player in cricket. Ibrahim has now played five Tests for Afghanistan, while Noor Ali Zadran had previously represented the national team in 51 ODIs and 23 T20Is.
Noor Ali Zadran performed impressively in his debut Test, scoring 31 runs in the first innings and 47 runs in the second innings. Although he missed out on a century, it was a commendable performance.
Noor Ali Zadran made his international debut for Afghanistan in 2009, but it took him around 15 years to make his Test debut in 2024. He has accumulated 1216 runs in ODIs with an average of 24.81 and 597 runs in T20Is with an average of 27.13 and a strike rate of 101.87.
