LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Netflix‘s hit series ‘Wednesday,’ which became the streaming platform’s most-watched English-language show after its November 2022 debut, is facing a potential viewership decline as fans brace for a possible split-season release for its second installment. Despite wrapping filming in December 2024, Netflix has yet to announce a release date, leaving fans in suspense.

The show, starring Jenna Ortega as the iconic Wednesday Addams, has maintained a loyal fanbase despite delays caused by Ortega’s busy schedule and the 2024 Hollywood labor strikes. However, Netflix’s recent trend of splitting seasons into multiple parts could test viewers’ patience. If the platform follows its current pattern, ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 might not premiere until July or August 2025, with episodes potentially released in two parts months apart.

‘Wednesday’ showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough have hinted at a darker, more intricate storyline for the upcoming season, with new cast members including Lady Gaga, Christopher Lloyd, and Steve Buscemi joining the ensemble. However, the absence of Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier, due to allegations of sexual assault, has already stirred controversy among fans.

Netflix’s strategy of splitting seasons is driven by both creative and financial considerations. The approach allows for longer seasons and bridges the gap between binge-watching and weekly releases. It also encourages viewers to maintain their subscriptions over multiple months. However, for ‘Wednesday,’ which has already kept fans waiting nearly three years, a split release could alienate its passionate audience.

‘Almost any other show would be doomed at this point,’ said one industry insider. ‘But ‘Wednesday’ has a unique appeal that might just keep fans coming back, even if they have to wait longer for the full season.’

With no official release date in sight, fans are left to speculate whether Netflix will risk a split-season format or reward their loyalty with a full-season drop. Either way, the anticipation for ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 remains high, as viewers eagerly await the next chapter in the Addams family’s eerie adventures.
