New Cast Members Join ‘Snowfall’ Spinoff Pilot

LOS ANGELES, CA — The upcoming spinoff pilot of the acclaimed series ‘Snowfall’ has added three series regulars, according to an exclusive report by Variety. Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III are set to join original cast members Gail Bean and Isaiah John in this new chapter, which explores West Coast rap in the 1990s.
Bean and John will reprise their roles from ‘Snowfall’, while character details for Blackk, Smith, and Sims remain undisclosed. The pilot’s logline reveals that it will follow a recovering addict, played by Bean, trying to mainstream West Coast rap while facing challenges from a gang war.
Asante Blackk has gained recognition for his performance in the Netflix limited series ‘When They See Us’, which earned him an Emmy nomination. He is also known for his role in NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ and will appear in the upcoming third season of HBO‘s ‘Euphoria’. Blackk is represented by Gersh, M88, The Lede Company, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka.
Peyton Alex Smith has previously starred in the CW’s ‘All American: Homecoming’ and ‘Legacies’. He has also appeared in Starz’s ‘BMF’ and is known for his role in Kathryn Bigelow’s film ‘Detroit’. Smith is represented by Innovative Artists Entertainment and Goodman Genow.
Simmie Sims III, known as Buddy in the music industry, was discovered by Scott Vener and signed by Pharrell Williams. He has collaborated with notable artists like Kendrick Lamar and Miley Cyrus and has appeared in HBO Max’s ‘Rap Sh!t’ and Peacock’s ‘Bel-Air’. Sims is managed by Wrenn Management.
Malcolm Spellman is set to write and executive produce the pilot, with the original ‘Snowfall’ team including Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson also on board. FX Productions is handling the project.
‘Snowfall’ originally aired from 2017 to 2023, examining the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles through various characters’ perspectives, including drug kingpin Franklin Saint and CIA operative Teddy McDonald.
