New England Revolution Vs Rhode Island Fc U.s. Open Cup

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (May 7, 2025) – The New England Revolution will travel to Pawtucket on Wednesday night to compete against Rhode Island FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32. The match is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Centreville Bank Stadium, marking just the second game ever played at Rhode Island FC’s new field.

The Revolution, currently ranked ninth in the MLS Eastern Conference with a record of 5-4-1, come into the matchup riding a wave of momentum after a recent 2-0 win against Toronto FC. Goals from Carles Gil and Leo Campana helped the team secure its fourth consecutive clean sheet, a remarkable feat for the franchise, which now boasts the fewest goals conceded through ten games in team history.

Gil leads the Revolution with five goals this season, while Campana has contributed two. Rhode Island FC, on the other hand, enters the game sitting tenth in the USL Championship Eastern Conference, with a record of 1-3-2 after a 0-0 draw against San Antonio FC last week. This match will mark their first encounter with an MLS opponent.

Despite some struggles early in the season, Rhode Island FC is energized by the support of their local fans. Head coach Khano Smith hopes the lively atmosphere will boost his squad, especially in the absence of their leading scorer, JJ Williams, who is injured.

Revolution attacker Luca Langoni, who joined the team last August, aims to make a significant impact in this match. He has made nine appearances this season, providing one assist so far. “This game offers a great chance to show what we can do,” said Langoni before the match.

Caleb Porter, the head coach of the Revolution, emphasized the importance of player development in this tournament. “We want to advance, but we’re also using this opportunity to develop our squad depth,” Porter noted. He plans to rotate the lineup to keep players fresh for the upcoming matches.

Goalkeeper Alex Bono is set to make his club debut, expressing eagerness to perform: “It’s a great opportunity to show what we are made of in a big matchup that resonates with local fans,” Bono said. He acknowledged the significance of the U.S. Open Cup as a traditional tournament that connects various leagues.

As the excitement builds for the match, both teams are eager to make their mark in this unique competition. With the opportunity for further advancement in the cup and a chance to ignite local rivalries, the atmosphere promises to be charged as they face off for the first time.
