BOSTON, Mass. — New England residents can expect a dramatic temperature swing this week, with a chilly Wednesday followed by a milder Thursday, just in time for the Boston Red Sox Home Opener at Fenway Park.

On Wednesday, temperatures are forecasted to dip into the 20s in the morning and rise into the 40s by afternoon. Meteorologists expect clouds to increase throughout the day, creating a chance of rain overnight. Higher elevations in central and northern New England may experience a brief wintry mix.

Thursday promises milder conditions, although rain is likely. According to forecasters, drizzle and scattered showers are expected from morning through lunchtime, with an afternoon dry spell anticipated for many towns. “While we may see some clouds, the afternoon should offer a break in precipitation for most of the area,” said Shiri Spear, a meteorologist with Boston 25 News.

The final batch of showers will likely move through overnight into early Friday, before skies begin to clear from north to south. The forecast for the Red Sox Home Opener, scheduled for 2 PM, looks promising, with partly sunny skies and temperatures expected to reach the 60s.

However, fans should prepare for a cooler and soggier weekend ahead, as rain is projected to return later in the week. “Weekend plans may need to be adjusted as another wave of wet weather arrives,” Spear added. “It’s always a good idea to check back for updated forecasts as we get closer to the weekend.”
