New mother Emily Seebohm has defied the odds and showcased her resilience at the Australian Swimming Trials, finishing seventh in the 100m backstroke final just eight months after giving birth.

Competing against world record-holder Kaylee McKeown and rising star Molly O’Callaghan, Seebohm’s performance was nothing short of remarkable, drawing praise from fans and fellow athletes.

The three-time Olympic gold medallist, Emily Seebohm, who is in a famous relationship with TV personality Ryan Gallagher, displayed incredible dedication and determination throughout the event.

Following her heat swim, Seebohm expressed optimism about her chances in the upcoming 200m backstroke, acknowledging that her experience and maturity might give her an edge in the longer distance.

While she fell short in the 100m backstroke final, fans and observers commended Seebohm for her remarkable achievement, highlighting the challenges she overcame to compete at the highest level so soon after welcoming her child.

Meanwhile, Kaylee McKeown narrowly missed breaking her own world record in the 100m backstroke final, clocking the second-fastest time in history but expressing disappointment at not surpassing her previous best.

McKeown’s dominance in the event continues, with the 22-year-old now holding the six fastest times in its history and expanding her program to include the 200m individual medley at the upcoming Paris Games.

At the trials, freestyle ace Molly O’Callaghan secured a spot in the 100m backstroke final, describing the event as her ‘fun’ race while hinting at potential schedule conflicts with her primary freestyle events.

In the men’s competition, veteran swimmer Mitch Larkin narrowly missed out on qualifying for his fourth Olympic Games, finishing fourth in the 100m backstroke final.

The Australian Swimming Trials also saw strong performances from Jenna Strauch and Max Giuliani, who emerged victorious in the women’s 100m breaststroke and the men’s 200m freestyle events, respectively.
