New Music Releases: Bon Iver, Porridge Radio, Japandroids Among Highlights
With a continuous influx of new music releases, it can be challenging for listeners to keep track of what to prioritize. Pitchfork, a prominent music reviewing publication, offers a weekly overview of significant new releases available on various streaming platforms. This week’s highlights include new works from artists such as Bon Iver, Porridge Radio, and Japandroids.
Bon Iver, led by Justin Vernon, has presented a new EP titled “SABLE,” which was recorded at his April Base studio in Wisconsin. The project consists of four tracks and includes contributions from collaborators Jim-E Stack, Ryan Olson, and BJ Burton, with Rob Moose providing viola and string arrangements. Vernon, ahead of the album release, premiered a single along with a moody black-and-white video directed by Erinn Springer.
British band Porridge Radio has unveiled their fourth full-length album produced by Dom Monks. The band draws influences from 1990s grunge and alternative rock bands like the Cranberries and Screaming Trees. Bandleader Dana Margolin describes the 11-track album as inspired by a “frenetic and desperate kind of love”.
Meanwhile, Japandroids, a duo from Vancouver, have released their final album, which they describe as a “cinematic take” on their sound. They aim to make a lasting impression with their blend of emo-tinged ballads and pop-punk tracks.
The London band High Vis dropped their newest album, “Guided Tour,” which encapsulates both the gritty energy of modern punk and an homage to Britpop’s roots. The album follows their 2022 release and includes several well-received singles.
Kelly Lee Owens, a Welsh producer-songwriter, released “Dreamstate,” collaborating with notable figures such as Tom Rowlands from the Chemical Brothers and George Daniel from The 1975. The album marks her debut with the DH2 electronic label.
Uruguayan artist Lechuga Zafiro makes his debut on an electronic label with “Desde los Oídos de un Sapo,” incorporating a variety of field recordings collected from around the globe into a glitchy dance music landscape.
Brooklyn band Office Culture expands their lineup with a 25-member collaborative effort for their new album “Enough,” which blends jazz, pop, and rock over a 73-minute period.
Dominican producer Mediopicky released “Bexaco y Rico,” following quickly on the heels of his previous album from September, “El Precio de la Yuca.” Alongside the album drop, he released several singles.
Electronic hardcore duo Machine Girl unveils their sixth album, “MG Ultra,” blending diverse genre elements into a dynamic and intense music experience.
The album “Majician” by Upper West Side rapper Kurious has been produced by Mono En Stereo. It marks one of the last projects executive-produced by the late MF Doom.
