Newark Airport Experiences Significant Delays Due to Equipment Outage
Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey is facing significant flight disruptions due to an equipment outage that occurred on Friday, October 11. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for the airport, affecting both arriving and departing flights.
According to the FAA, some arriving flights are being delayed by an average of one hour and thirty-four minutes as of 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Departing flights from Newark Airport are experiencing gate holds and taxi delays ranging from 16 to 30 minutes, with delays increasing over time.
The ground stop, which was put in place around 3:15 p.m., is expected to last until at least 4:00 p.m., although the FAA may extend or rescind it based on the progress of repairs. Additionally, flights departing from Teterboro Airport, which is also affected by the equipment issue, are being delayed by an average of 60 minutes and increasing.
The exact nature of the equipment failure has not been disclosed by the FAA or airport officials. This incident marks the second time in recent months that Newark Airport has experienced a ground stop due to technical issues, following a similar event in early September caused by a radar issue.
Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest status of their flights and to consider alternative arrangements if their travel is time-sensitive. The Port Authority, which operates the airport, has assured that planes are still arriving and departing, albeit with significant delays).
