NFF Appoints Potential Replacements for Super Eagles Coach Finidi George
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has been in discussions regarding potential replacements for the Super Eagles head coach Finidi George. After lackluster performances in the 2026 CAF qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic, George’s position has come under scrutiny.
Following the disappointing results in the qualifiers, fans of the Super Eagles have been clamoring for a change at the coaching helm. The NFF is now considering various candidates to take over the role and lead the national team in upcoming matches.
One of the notable names on the list of potential replacements is former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro. Peseiro, who previously led the team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, could be in line for a return to the position.
Another candidate being considered is Toni Conceicao, a coach with experience in leading clubs like Braga and Cameroon. Conceicao’s success with CFR Cluj and Cameroon makes him a strong contender for the role.
Herve Renard, the two-time AFCON-winning coach with Zambia and Ivory Coast, is also under consideration. Renard’s familiarity with African football and his track record of success make him an attractive option for the NFF.
Steve Cooper, the former manager of Nottingham Forest and Swansea, is another name in the running. Cooper’s success with youth teams and clubs in England could make him a good fit for the Super Eagles.
Other potential candidates include Jean-Louis Gasset, Rui Vitoria, Jurgen Klinsmann, and English-Nigerian coach Sulaiman, who has had a successful tenure with Chelsea‘s youth teams.
With the NFF exploring various options to revitalize the Super Eagles, the decision on George’s replacement is eagerly anticipated by fans and stakeholders in Nigerian football.
