NHTSA Issues Recall for 82,117 Harley-Davidson Softail Motorcycles

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall affecting 82,117 Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycles due to a potential safety issue. The recall applies to certain models manufactured between 2018 and 2024.
The problem involves the mounting tab on the rear shock pre-load adjuster, which may break. If this occurs, it can allow the rear shock absorber adjuster to damage the rear tire, leading to a loss of tire pressure and significantly increasing the risk of a crash, officials stated.
As of early June, Harley-Davidson had not reported any deaths or injuries related to this defect. However, some of the motorcycles included in this recall had previously undergone repairs under recall 23V591 and will require a new remedy.
To remedy the situation, authorized dealers will install a new bracket at no cost to the owners. Notification letters are expected to be mailed to affected owners by June 16. Motorcycle owners with questions can reach Harley-Davidson at 1-800-258-2464, using recall number 0188.
Additionally, owners may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
