Avatar Last Airbender Animated Series Seven Havens

BURBANK, Calif. — Nickelodeon has officially greenlit the animated series “Avatar: Seven Havens,” marking the next chapter in the beloved Avatar universe. The announcement comes just one day before the 20th anniversary of the original series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” which debuted on February 21, 2005.

The new 2D animated series will comprise 26 half-hour episodes, spanning two seasons, referred to as Books 1 and 2. It is currently in production at Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank, California, and is being led by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

According to the official logline, the story unfolds in “a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm.” The plot follows a young Earthbender who learns that she has become the new Avatar after the events of “The Legend of Korra.” However, this title presents a grave challenge for her, as in this dangerous era, being the Avatar is perceived not as a savior but as a harbinger of destruction. Together with her long-lost twin, she must navigate threats from both human and spirit enemies to uncover their shared past and preserve the Seven Havens before the last remnants of civilization collapse.

In a joint statement, DiMartino and Konietzko reflected on the legacy of the franchise, stating, “When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later. This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”

Executive producers for the series include Ethan Spaulding and co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi, both bringing extensive experience in animation to the project.

Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, shared her excitement about continuing the franchise, saying, “For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally. We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”

This upcoming series will be the third animated installment in the Avatar franchise, following the original “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and the sequel series, “The Legend of Korra,” which aired for four seasons between 2012 and 2014. Additionally, a film focused on the original characters, featuring Avatar Aang in adult form, is slated for release in theaters on January 30, 2026, with a voice cast that includes Dave Bautista and Jessica Matten.

Fans of the franchise will also have access to a wealth of new content in celebration of the 20th anniversary, including digital shorts, live experiences, consumer products, and games, as Paramount looks to honor the legacy of the Avatar universe.
