Nicolas Cage John Madden Biopic First Look

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Amazon MGM Studios has started production on a biopic titled “Madden,” featuring Nicolas Cage as the legendary NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden. The film’s first official image was revealed on Tuesday, showing Cage transformed into Madden next to Christian Bale, who portrays Raiders owner Al Davis.

The film, directed by David O. Russell, highlights Madden’s career, which includes leading the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl victory in 1976 and his later prominence as a football commentator. The story will explore Madden’s journey from his early life to his impact on television, video games, and advertising.

Russell, an Oscar-nominated director known for films like “The Fighter” and “American Hustle,” wrote the screenplay, revising an earlier draft by Cambron Clark. The project is produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, David O. Russell, and others, with Michael Strahan and Constance Schwartz-Morini serving as executive producers.

In addition to Cage and Bale, the cast features John Mulaney as Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis. The biopic will showcase how Madden’s deep understanding of football contributed to his success on various platforms, including the popular Madden NFL video game series.

As of now, the film is in production, but no release date has been announced.
