Nikolaj Ehlers’ Late Goal Propels Winnipeg Jets to Franchise-Record Eighth Straight Win
The Winnipeg Jets secured their eighth consecutive victory with a thrilling late goal by Nikolaj Ehlers, setting a new franchise record. In a closely contested game against the injury-plagued Chicago Blackhawks, Ehlers’ goal with just 1:05 remaining sealed a 2-1 win for the Jets.
Gabe Vilardi also contributed to Winnipeg’s success by finding the back of the net, while Adam Lowry provided two crucial assists. Conversely, Connor Murphy scored the lone goal for the Blackhawks.
With 3:29 left in the third period, the Jets managed to tie the game at 1-1 thanks to Vilardi’s goal. Lowry showcased his determination by shrugging off a check and delivering a perfect feed to Vilardi, who found himself alone in front of Chicago goaltender Petr Mrazek.
In front of a sold-out crowd of 15,225 fans at Canada Life Centre, goaltender Laurent Brossoit put on a strong performance for Winnipeg, making 20 saves on 21 shots. Mrazek stood tall in the net for the Blackhawks, stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced but ultimately suffering the loss.
Ehlers’ game-winning wrist shot over Mrazek’s glove hand not only secured the victory for the Jets but also extended his personal scoring streak to six games. This memorable win establishes Winnipeg’s current eight-game winning streak as the longest in franchise history.
