Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade Announcements

JAPAN, June 5, 2025 — In a highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event today, Nintendo announced that nearly its entire library of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Among the standouts, several titles will receive specialized “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” upgrades, enhancing gameplay with new features.

Highlighting the presentation was the announcement that iconic games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will be among the titles receiving significant visual and performance upgrades, including enhanced resolution, improved framerates, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will feature a new service called “Zelda Notes” through the Nintendo Switch Online app, providing voice guidance to aid players in locating Shrines and Koroks.

The event commenced with the unveiling of Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which will introduce the “Jamboree TV” feature. This upgrade allows for mouse controls, audio recognition, and more expressive rumble functionality. The upgraded version also promises gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory designed for the Switch 2.

Nintendo further revealed that Kirby and the Forgotten Land will feature an exclusive new storyline titled “Star-Crossed World,” along with graphical improvements. Meanwhile, two highly anticipated titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, will also receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, ensuring players can enjoy enhanced gameplay with improved resolution and framerate options.

All upgraded titles will be available in both physical and digital formats. Nintendo confirmed that existing owners of some original titles, specifically Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, will have the option to purchase upgrade packs to access these enhancements.

This announcement comes amid speculation surrounding the Switch 2’s capabilities. Notably, Nintendo hinted at limitations regarding the transferability of certain games, indicating that “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” games cannot be migrated to the original Nintendo Switch through the Virtual Game Card system.

Nintendo’s focus on upgraded versions of existing games indicates a strategic move to draw in both new players and loyal fans, aligning with trends seen in other gaming consoles, such as those from Sony and Microsoft. However, the pricing structure for these upgrades remains unclear, leading to questions about potential costs and comparisons to current gaming trends.

As excitement builds around the Switch 2’s release, players eagerly await further details on additional titles and the console’s launch date. In the meantime, Nintendo’s commitment to legacy titles illustrates a dedication to enhancing the overall gaming experience for its audience.
