Nintendo Switch 2 Console Release

REDMOND, Wash. — Pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 are officially live, but gamers are finding it difficult to secure a unit in the United States. The console, launching globally on June 5, is already sold out at most retailers in just minutes after orders opened on April 24.

Multiple major retailers, including Best Buy, GameStop, and Target, have confirmed launch day restocks, which is creating hope for those still trying to get their hands on the console. Best Buy will open stores at midnight on launch day for pre-order pickups, showcasing their commitment to meeting consumer demand.

In the United Kingdom, the situation is different, with several retailers still having stock available for pre-order. Stores like Very, Currys, and ShopTo are offering restocks of the Switch 2, which has led to a more favorable buying experience for UK customers.

The Switch 2 is priced at $449 in the U.S. for the standard edition, while a bundled version with a copy of Mario Kart will retail at $499. The UK prices start at £395 for the standard version, with bundle prices slightly higher.

Editors working with pre-orders cite a substantial increase in demand fueled by excitement around the nostalgic gaming experience combined with advanced technology. “The Switch 2 is shaping up to be one of the most significant console launches in recent memory,” said Rory Mellon, a senior entertainment editor and expert on gaming trends. “The response has been overwhelming, but that also means it’s tough to nail down a pre-order.”

Currently, some retailers in the U.S. are still preparing for additional stock drops as June approaches. “Walmart is showing the Switch 2 on their site but has kept it ‘coming soon’, meaning consumers should keep checking back,” said a retailer spokesperson.

While official Nintendo channels like the Nintendo Store previously offered invite-only pre-orders, they are now open to all Nintendo Switch Online members, making it easier for gamers to secure their console. However, no updates on potential restocks have been made for U.S. customers since the initial launch.

Based on past launches, analysts predict further availability during the weeks leading up to the official launch, but customers are encouraged to act fast given the high demand. The excitement continues to build as more customers eagerly await their gaming systems.
