The Anambra State Police Command has clarified that the remains of beloved Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, known as Junior Pope, were not among those laid to rest by the banks of the Anam River.

According to SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Police Command’s spokesperson, only three families of the deceased individuals agreed to have their loved ones buried by the riverside.

After the burial of the three individuals, one family decided to exhume the remains of their daughter for a more dignified burial in her hometown.

Ikenga confirmed that the body of Junior Pope was still in a morgue awaiting further arrangements.

He stated, ‘The Command inquired about the unverified information suggesting that the recovered bodies, including Junior Pope, were interred by the Riverside where the tragic boat accident occurred.

Three families initially consented to the riverside burials, but subsequently, one family chose to relocate their loved one for a proper burial in her place of origin, while the other two individuals remain buried by the riverbank.’

Ikenga further mentioned that Junior Pope’s remains, along with another individual, are currently in the morgue pending funeral plans from the respective families.

He emphasized that the Command is actively investigating the incident, having already obtained statements from the movie producer and the two boat drivers involved.

Ikenga assured that necessary measures are being taken to determine any potential criminal liability in the tragic mishap as directed by the Commissioner of Police.
