Norman Powell Signs with Skechers Ahead of All-Star Weekend

LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Norman Powell has officially signed with Skechers, agreeing to solely wear the brand’s basketball footwear. The announcement, made public on February 11, indicates that Powell will wear the SKX NEXUS™ model during the upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend, where he is set to compete in the 3-point contest on February 15.
This partnership signifies Skechers’ continued expansion into the basketball footwear market, enhancing its roster of athletes that already includes notable players like Joel Embiid and Julius Randle. Powell expressed his satisfaction with the brand, stating, “I’ve been seeing more players competing in Skechers, so I wanted to try them for myself. It was immediately clear that Skechers is a perfect fit for me.”
The SKX NEXUS™ is designed for agility and stability, featuring Skechers Move Foam™ technology, a breathable mesh upper, and Goodyear® rubber designed with a torsion-plate for optimal traction. “While everything about Skechers Basketball is unexpected, they understand the grind and are relentless in their pursuit of performance excellence, so I can’t wait to take it up a notch with this brand,” added Powell.
Michael Greenberg, the president of Skechers, addressed the significance of bringing Powell into the fold, remarking, “As a Los Angeles-based company, we saw a great opportunity in bringing Clippers athlete Norman Powell to Team Skechers. Known as a standout player in the league, Norman’s incredible performance on the court this season has fans watching his every move—and we love that he’s doing it in Skechers Basketball shoes.”
Norman Powell, who played college basketball at UCLA, was drafted by the Toronto Raptors in the 2015 NBA Draft and was instrumental in the team’s first NBA Championship win in 2019. After stints with the Portland Trail Blazers, he joined the Clippers in February 2022 and has become known for his reliable scoring ability, making the playoffs in nine of his ten NBA seasons.
Skechers has prepared two player exclusive (PE) colorways of the SKX NEXUS™ for Powell, which will be available to the public without personalized details. One colorway is in Black Lime and the other in Light Blue, with the latter set to release in April. These designs reflect Powell’s ties to his roots, including details honoring his family and background.
The signing of Powell is another strategic effort by Skechers to bolster its presence in the basketball sector. Powell’s performance during the All-Star Weekend will be closely watched as he showcases the SKX NEXUS™ and aims for a standout showing in the 3-point contest.
With the inclusion of Powell, Skechers continues to build its reputation in performance footwear, showing their commitment to creating innovative designs that cater to athletes’ needs. The brand’s basketball collection also includes additional models such as SKX Resagrip™, SKX Float™, and SKX Reign™.
