CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 5 national seed North Carolina Tar Heels showcased their offensive prowess on Saturday night, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners 11-5 at Boshamer Stadium. The victory secured their place in the regional final set for Sunday night.

North Carolina (44-12, 18-11 ACC) wasted no time in asserting dominance, scoring six runs in the first inning. The rally was highlighted by a three-run homer from Sam Angelo, who had a remarkable game, finishing with two home runs.

Pitcher Jason DeCaro delivered a standout performance, pitching six strong innings and matching his career-best with eight strikeouts. His efforts helped maintain control over the game, and his leadership on the mound has been crucial for the Tar Heels throughout the regional.

With every UNC player who took the field scoring a run, the team displayed a comprehensive offensive strategy. Notably, Oklahoma’s ace, Kyson Witherspoon, was targeted early, allowing Carolina to jump ahead quickly in the game.

After a misplay by the Sooners allowed a runner on base, North Carolina capitalized with four consecutive hits, setting the stage for Angelo’s monumental homer. Angelo’s performance marked his first multi-home run game and propelled the Tar Heels to a significant lead.

Sophomore standout showed consistent brilliance, going 4-for-5 with an additional run and an RBI. His exceptional performance in both games of the regional further demonstrates his potential as the season progresses.

North Carolina’s defense also played a pivotal role in the victory. Key defensive plays, including a savvy pick at second base and a sliding catch in the outfield, helped minimize Oklahoma’s scoring chances.

The Tar Heels will face the winner of the Nebraska-Oklahoma elimination game on Sunday night at 6 p.m. ET, with hopes of advancing further in the tournament.
