North Carolina Weather Forecast Predicts Increased Rain for First Weekend of May

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Rain chances are on the rise in North Carolina as the state heads into the first weekend of May. A slow-moving storm system is expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms from Friday through Sunday.
Today, temperatures reached the mid-80s in Winston-Salem, with warm and humid conditions feeling more like summer. Despite the brightness, a few high clouds linger in the sky and isolated afternoon storms may develop.
The WXII 12 First Warning Weather Team reports that moisture levels have increased significantly across the state due to a southwest wind. While today is not expected to be as rainy as yesterday, isolated showers could emerge, especially in the mountains and foothills.
On Thursday, communities will experience a mix of sun and clouds, although scattered showers might develop in the western parts of the state. A few storms are predicted to move northeast throughout the day.
As the weather pattern shifts, Friday is set to see a higher probability of rain. According to meteorologists, scattered storms could begin in the morning, with the bulk of the rain expected to hit in the afternoon as a trough and cold front approach.
Saturday will bring the most rain, with numerous showers and thunderstorms anticipated across North Carolina. There is a marginal risk for severe weather, which could include gusty winds and hail.
By Sunday, the storm system is expected to stall near the region, providing yet another opportunity for scattered showers, especially to the east of the Triad.
Forecast models indicate that total rainfall over the weekend could range from 0.5 to 1.5 inches, with isolated areas potentially receiving more. This increase in precipitation comes after many communities previously reported needing rain.
Residents are advised to stay alert for changing weather conditions and prepare for possible late-day thunderstorms as this wetter pattern unfolds.
