Icy Roads Dallas Texas Winter Weather

DALLAS, Texas – North Texans woke up to freezing temperatures and icy roads Saturday morning, with temperatures dipping into the 20s and 10s overnight. FOX 4 meteorologist Ali Turiano warned residents to exercise caution, especially on roads and overpasses, as melted snow refroze into patches of black ice. However, sunshine is expected to return later in the day, helping to melt the remaining snow and ice.

According to the FOX 4 Weather team, Saturday will see highs in the mid to upper 40s, with some areas reaching the 50s. A cold front is expected to move through the region on Sunday, bringing temperatures near freezing and extra cloud cover. Despite the chill, temperatures are forecast to climb into the 40s by the afternoon.

Monday will start with temperatures in the 20s, rising to the upper 40s by the afternoon. The rest of the week will bring more typical winter weather, with temperatures in the 50s by Thursday and possibly reaching the 60s by Friday. However, meteorologists are monitoring a potential pattern shift next weekend that could bring arctic air to the region, though it is too early to predict its exact impact.

Residents are advised to take precautions, including winterizing homes, protecting pipes, and bringing pets indoors. The Texas Department of Insurance recommends trimming trees near power lines and checking attic insulation levels. Additionally, outdoor faucets should be insulated, and indoor faucets on external walls may need to be left dripping overnight to prevent freezing.

For those with outdoor plants, the Dallas Arboretum suggests covering delicate plants with sheets or frost blankets and watering soil by hand to insulate roots. Pool owners are advised to monitor pumps to ensure water continues to circulate, preventing pipes from freezing.

As North Texas navigates this cold snap, residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for fluctuating winter conditions.
