Northern California Weather Forecast

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A cold front is bringing cooler temperatures and scattered showers to Northern California. The rain will mainly affect the region during the morning, tapering off in the afternoon.

Temperatures in the valley are expected to reach the mid-70s, while foothills will see highs in the upper 60s and the Sierra will reach around 60 degrees. Meteorologists indicate that today’s best chance for rain is in the morning hours.

As residents head out in the early hours, light rain is possible, particularly in areas like Stockton and parts of Sacramento. By late morning, more scattered showers may develop, offering intermittent rain throughout the day.

“Expect on-and-off showers with totals possibly reaching up to a tenth of an inch in some areas,” said one meteorologist. “These showers will be lighter and more widely scattered compared to heavier organized systems we’ve had in the past.”

This afternoon will bring a temporary dry spell as the cold front moves eastward. However, meteorologists warn that returning sunshine might also fuel a few thunderstorms later in the evening.

Looking ahead, winds are expected to turn northerly tonight and high temperatures will warm to the low 80s for the upcoming weekend. Despite this warming trend, another storm system could impact the region next week, potentially leading to another dip in temperatures.

As the work week concludes, expect highs in the low to mid 70s. The weekend appears to bring pleasant weather, a welcome change after the current cool conditions.
