Northern California Readies for First 80-Degree Day of 2025

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Temperatures in Northern California are set to rise significantly on Monday, marking what could be the first 80-degree day of the year. Following a mild and dry weekend, meteorologist Tamara Berg predicts that downtown Sacramento will reach a high of 80 degrees, up from the 77 degrees recorded on Sunday. This increase is notable, given that the average for this time of year is around 69 degrees.
The morning will begin comfortably cool, with temperatures in the 40s, quickly warming into the mid-70s by noon. “This Monday is an ideal day for outdoor activities, especially with the forecast highest temperatures expected in the mid-afternoon,” said Berg.
Looking ahead, peak warmth in the region is anticipated for Tuesday, where highs are projected in the low to mid-80s; however, no temperature records are expected to be broken, according to Berg.
Following the heatwave, temperatures are anticipated to decline by Wednesday, as a shift in weather patterns begins to take place. Despite the abrupt increase, the latter half of the week is forecasted to cool down considerably, with temperatures dropping to the lower 60s by the weekend.
“Even though we might feel a notable drop, this is common for the season as the weather adjusts toward spring norms,” Berg explained. The forecaster also indicated that conditions may shift to become more unsettled as the week progresses.
On Thursday, there is a chance for light showers along the coast and in the foothills, particularly in the Sierra Nevada mountain region. Snow is a possibility in higher elevations, with accumulations forecasted to start affecting travel conditions by Friday evening.
As for the weekend, the cooling trend is expected to continue, with Saturday and Sunday projected to be cloudy and cooler. “We’re likely looking at a weekend experience that feels significantly different than the heatwave earlier in the week,” Berg noted.
For those planning outdoor activities, Berg recommends taking full advantage of the warm Monday, as conditions are likely to change in the coming days.
