Notre Dame Vs Virginia Tech Women's Basketball 2025

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Hannah Hidalgo scored 30 points to lead No. 3 Notre Dame to a 77-61 victory over Virginia Tech on Thursday night at Cassell Coliseum. The Fighting Irish extended their winning streak to 13 games, maintaining their perfect 9-0 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Hidalgo, the ACC preseason player of the year, shot 10 of 16 from the floor and made all seven of her free throws. Olivia Miles added 15 points, while Liza Karlen contributed 12 for Notre Dame (18-2, 9-0 ACC), which shot 50.9% from the field. The Irish pulled away in the second half with a 12-3 run, led by Hidalgo and Miles, who combined for 12 points during the stretch.

Virginia Tech (14-7, 5-5 ACC) struggled to keep pace, losing its second consecutive game. Carys Baker led the Hokies with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but the team committed 20 turnovers, leading to 22 Notre Dame points. Carleigh Wenzel, Virginia Tech’s leading scorer, was limited by foul trouble, further hampering the Hokies’ offense.

“Our resilience has been key,” said Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey. “We’ve faced adversity, but this team has stayed consistent and focused.”

Notre Dame’s dominance in the ACC continues to solidify their position as a top contender. Hidalgo has scored at least 20 points in 18 of 20 games this season, showcasing her elite playmaking ability. The Irish now prepare for a road game against Louisville on Sunday, while Virginia Tech will host SMU.
