Novak Djokovic Playfully Accused of Delaying Match for TV Slot by Kyrgios and Henman
During a lively BBC broadcast, tennis personalities Nick Kyrgios and Tim Henman engaged in playful banter, suggesting that Novak Djokovic might be deliberately allowing his opponent, Jacob Fearnley, to make a comeback in their match to secure a prime television slot.
The Serbian star, Djokovic, swiftly gained a two-set lead against Britain’s world No.277, Fearnley, on Centre Court. However, Djokovic faltered in the third set, allowing Fearnley to clinch it 7-5, creating a tense moment in the fourth set.
At the same time, Djokovic’s match was scheduled as the opening event on the prestigious Centre Court, while the Murray brothers were set to feature in a doubles match later in the day. On Court 1, British top players were also taking center stage with Harriet Dart and Cameron Norrie in action.
Amidst the buzz, Kyrgios and Henman hinted that Djokovic’s strategic unfolding of the match may have been a tactical move to delay the doubles match of the Murrays until the British players on Court 1 had completed their matches.
Discussing the dynamic scheduling, BBC host Clare Balding mentioned the relief schedulers would feel if Djokovic’s match extended, allowing for a smoother transition in the day’s lineup. Kyrgios playfully noted Djokovic’s potential awareness of this, while Henman amusingly suggested Djokovic’s willingness to assist the tournament by extending his match.
In the midst of the banter, Kyrgios inquired about the prestigious membership at the club, to which Henman jokingly assured him he was working on it, emphasizing his limited influence to grant such an honor.
