Ohio State Basketball Vs Ucla Game Highlights

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Ohio State failed to match UCLA‘s renowned defensive prowess in a 69-61 loss on Sunday at Pauley Pavilion. The game marked a notable struggle for Ohio State (15-13, 7-10 Big Ten), who shot just 31.7% from the field against a Bruins squad that holds the fewest points allowed per game in the Big Ten.

UCLA (20-8, 11-6) showcased its defensive strength, exemplified by six blocks and seven steals during the game. Forward Eric Dailey Jr. led all scorers with 20 points, significantly contributing to his team’s win while Ohio State’s star point guard Bruce Thornton put together a valiant effort with 21 points, supported only by guard Micah Parrish‘s 12 points.

The matchup began with a slow-paced start as both teams exchanged early layups. The Bruins initially secured an 8-2 lead, with Ohio State’s Royal narrowing the gap with an impressive dunk and free throw, making it 8-7. However, both teams faced a lethargic stretch, failing to score for over four minutes due to multiple turnovers.

Despite their struggles, UCLA broke the scoring drought with a 7-0 run, giving them a slight lead heading into halftime at 28-24. Both teams’ shooting percentages were low, with Ohio State at 27.3% and UCLA at 32.4% in the first half.

Compounding Ohio State’s troubles, Sean Stewart accumulated three fouls early in the first half, which limited the team’s frontcourt depth. Centers Ivan Njegovan and Austin Parks failed to make an offensive impact with a combined 0-for-3 shooting in their minutes on the court.

After halftime, Dailey’s offensive burst helped UCLA extend its lead, scoring the first nine points of the second half. This motivated Ohio State to respond with a quick 7-0 run, powered by unexpected contributions from Ques Glover.

As the game progressed, UCLA regained control, leading by double digits as Tyler Bilodeau‘s free throws put the Bruins ahead 50-40. Despite Ohio State’s attempts to chip away at the lead, UCLA maintained a steady cushion, never allowing the Buckeyes to get within six points.

UCLA’s defense, a hallmark of head coach Mick Cronin‘s strategy, suffocated Ohio State’s offense late in the game, leading to a decisive 69-61 win. Ohio State’s next challenge comes on the road against USC on Wednesday, aiming to rebound with a game scheduled for 10:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
