Ohio Schools Face Closures, Delays Amid Winter Weather
SANDUSKY, Ohio — Several schools and districts in Ohio announced closures or delays for Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, as winter weather conditions continue to impact the region.
The Armstrong School District and River Valley School District are among those closed entirely, while others, including Apollo-Ridge School District and Homer-Center School District, are operating on a two-hour delay. Morning classes at several early childhood centers, such as Little Seedlings Homer City and Little Sprouts South Buffalo, have also been canceled.
“We prioritize the safety of our students and staff,” said a spokesperson for the Indiana Area School District, one of the districts implementing a delay. “The decision to delay or close is never made lightly, but current conditions warrant caution.”
Local authorities have urged residents to stay updated on weather forecasts and road conditions. The National Weather Service has issued advisories for icy roads and reduced visibility in parts of the state.
Meanwhile, the American Red Cross has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, citing a critical shortage. Several blood drives are scheduled in the area, with officials encouraging eligible donors to participate. “Every donation can save up to three lives,” said a Red Cross representative. “We need the community’s support now more than ever.”
