Ole Miss Arkansas Baseball Collision

HOOVER, Ala. — A frightening moment unfolded on Friday during the SEC Baseball Tournament when Ole Miss outfielders Isaac Humphrey and Ryan Moerman collided while chasing a fly ball, leaving both players injured.

The incident occurred in the second inning of the quarterfinal matchup against Arkansas, with Ole Miss holding a 5-1 lead. Arkansas batter Cam Kozeal struck a solid shot into the right-center gap, prompting Humphrey and Moerman to pursue the ball. In a dramatic moment, the two outfielders collided at full speed, sending gear flying and leaving Humphrey motionless.

As the players lay on the field, Moerman managed to retrieve the ball but struggled to throw it back to the infield. Kozeal scored an inside-the-park home run as the chaotic scene unfolded. Trainers rushed to assist both players. Eventually, Humphrey continued the game, but Moerman was removed due to injury.

“Obviously a scary moment for everybody, especially when you get two guys go down,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. He addressed concerns about possible concussions and knee injuries sustained by Moerman, who initially complained about both knees. After evaluation, it was confirmed that Moerman would not return to the game due to a knee sprain.

Despite the chaos, Ole Miss managed to maintain their 5-2 lead for the remainder of the game, securing a spot in the semifinals. The Rebels will now face LSU on Saturday.

“It was traumatic, guys running full speed, and one thing turns into another,” Bianco added. “You just hope they’ll be okay, especially with a game tomorrow.”

Both players were crucial to Ole Miss’s previous game, contributing to a victory over Texas A&M. Fans and teammates continue to rally around them as the tournament progresses.
