U.s. Open Golf Players Cut News

OAKMONT, Pennsylvania – As the U.S. Open entered its critical second round on Friday, several top golfers faced a tough battle to make the cut. With play suspended due to storms, the cut line settled at 7 over par, rising from the initial 4 over as the day progressed.

Masters champion Rory McIlroy was among those fighting to stay in contention. Starting the day at 4 over, he struggled early but rallied to finish the round at 2 over 72, bringing his total to 6 over for the tournament—right at the cut line. McIlroy made a double bogey on the first and third holes but recovered with clutch birdies on the 15th and 18th.

In stark contrast, reigning U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau faced a disastrous day. He started at 3 over par but ended with a 7-over 77, bringing his total to 10 over, thus missing the cut. After a shaky start, DeChambeau hit three consecutive bogeys and struggled consistently throughout the round.

Scottie Scheffler, ranked No. 1 in the world, managed to avoid disaster. He began his second round at 2 over but finished at 1 over for the day, totaling 3 over for the tournament. Despite a challenging stretch on the back nine, he made key birdies that secured his place for the weekend.

Other notable golfers struggled, including Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, and Wyndham Clark, all of whom missed the cut. Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, finished at 8 over after another round of 4 over.

The second round of the U.S. Open will continue to air nationally on Peacock and NBC, with coverage shifting to highlight major players still in contention. With over 150 golfers entered, the battle for the weekend promises to be intense as many currently sit on the edge of elimination.
