U.s. Open Golf Championship Oakmont

OAKMONT, Pennsylvania — The fourth and final round of the 2025 U.S. Open was suspended on Sunday due to severe weather, forcing players off the course. Sam Burns currently leads the tournament at -2, while Adam Scott is just one stroke behind.

The weather disruption arose just as rain began to fall at Oakmont Country Club, which has hosted the U.S. Open ten times. According to AccuWeather, conditions are expected to improve, with light rain tapering off shortly. However, thunderstorms and a 64 percent chance of rain are predicted for later in the evening.

Players, including the leading duo of Burns and Scott, had just reached the eighth tee when play was halted. Officials stated that there was significant standing water on the course and golf balls could not safely roll. The forecast predicts continuous rain throughout the day, making the situation more precarious.

During the delay, golfers Viktor Hovland and J.J. Spaun, both within striking distance of the lead, had just finished the eighth hole. Hovland’s performance has been inconsistent, as he dealt with multiple bogeys earlier. Spaun was also struggling after recording bogeys on five of his first six holes.

Scott, the 2013 Masters champion, missed a long putt but managed to maintain a tie for the lead with Burns, who missed his own chance for a birdie on the fifth hole. Despite the challenges, both players showed resilience with solid performances leading up to the weather delay.

The 2025 U.S. Open has proven to be difficult for several top golfers, including world number one Scottie Scheffler, who is currently at 4-over-par. He expressed determination to make a comeback, emphasizing that no player is out of the tournament until the final putt is made.

The delay is currently anticipated to last around 45 minutes, creating significant tension as fans and players await the resumption of play at the iconic Oakmont course.
