Opening Night of North Carolina State Fair Attracts Enthusiastic Crowds
The opening night of the North Carolina State Fair drew tens of thousands of visitors on Thursday, marking a successful start to the renowned event that will run until October 27. The fair, held annually in Raleigh, is a significant draw for residents and tourists alike, offering a mix of entertainment, food, and agricultural displays.
Mia Dean, a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, shared her excitement about the fair’s atmosphere. “The food, the rides, the vibes,” Dean stated enthusiastically. “All of it. I love it.” Her comments reflect the sentiment of many visitors who are drawn to the fair for its diverse offerings.
Joshua Aycock, a North Carolina State University student, expressed his particular interest in the agricultural exhibits. “I always like going to the agricultural places to be honest,” Aycock mentioned. He attended the fair on “Wolfpack Day,” an initiative allowing NC State students to enter for a discounted admission price of $8.
The theme for this year’s event, “Homegrown Happiness,” emphasizes the fair’s focus on local talent and produce. Breanna Powell, a resident of Durham, discovered a new favorite dish during her visit. “It’s perfect,” she said after trying brisket and mac and cheese together. Powell plans to return to the fair next week to further explore the offerings.
Among the fair’s attractions is the long-time caricature artist Nick Tabron, who has been capturing visitors’ unique features since 1997. “Our goal is to capture that unique difference in every person and have fun with it,” Tabron said, highlighting the fair’s community-centric spirit.
